A HAMMER-WIELDING burglary suspect who allegedly challenged police officers after they found him in a property garage has been arrested.
Officers were called to a report of an overnight burglary on Bickershaw Lane in the early hours.
At 12.34am on Wednesday, November 27, police were alerted to a report after a homeowner heard a window being broken and could hear someone trying to gain entry to his home.
Officers responded and conducted a search of the property and surrounding buildings.
They found a suspect in the garage, who police allege tried to challenge the officers while holding a hammer.
A man was detained and arrested on suspicion of offences including burglary.
He has been taken to custody.

Elsewhere in the borough overnight, police arrested a suspect in connection with a burglary on Pemberton Road, Wigan, and two suspects in relation to a burglary at an address on Wallgate, Wigan town centre.
Inspector Anson, of Greater Manchester Police's Wigan District, said: " A particularly busy night for the Wigan and Leigh Response Team. Four people arrested (on suspicion of) committing burglary at three separate unconnected locations.
"Great work by the team."
Insp Anson added: "Acquisitive burglary offences can increase over the Christmas period.
"Please be extra vigilant to reduce offending opportunities.
