A LEIGH primary school celebrated its 70th anniversary with a special event this month.
First opened in 1954, Newton Westpark primary school has educated countless children, employed dozens of caring staff, and witnessed generations of young people growing up at the Tennyson Avenue facility.
Earlier this month, the school celebrated the school's 70th anniversary with a full week of events and activities.

With each year group having a decade to investigate and learn about, the pupils learned about themes from the 1960s onwards, such as the main events in fashion, sports, music and dance.
On Friday, November 15, a whole school assembly was held where the pupils were invited to attend school dressed as their decade or the elderly.
The pupils and teachers also looked at what the school was like in the past, the present, and what it could be like in the future.
This gave pupils the opportunity to share and talk to their parents and grandparents about their experiences, and to deepen their understanding of the past.
With former school governors also invited to the events, the pupils are said to have really enjoyed the week of celebrations - as well as the school's large birthday cake!
