ASTLEY and Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club are busy planning for the forthcoming season, which starts with a tough away match against Northern League champions Hull on March 22.
Gone from last season’s squad are Polish international Darek Kurkowski, who is taking a year out of the sport, and Joe Allen, who has left the club.
A&T have moved smartly to replace the missing riders by signing Polish duo Pawel Szychalski from Czestochowa and Piotr Jamroszczyk from Zielona Gora.
Szychalski arrives in the UK this week, while Jamroszczyk will be available from May onwards.
Both riders narrowly missed qualifying for last year’s European Individual Final.
Local youngsters Ben Dickenson and Luke Jamson have been impressive in pre-season training and will be given their opportunities in the A&T first team this season.
Pre-season training continues at Gin Pit, Tyldesley Miners’ Welfare Club, every Sunday, 2pm for juniors and 3pm for seniors, as well as Tuesdays at 7pm for juniors and Thursdays at 7pm for seniors.
