SOME bargain hunters say they don’t go into some of the town’s many charity shops because they are too expensive.
I have to agree.
I’m an avid autobiography reader and frequent these shops for my weekly reading material - along with any other must haves I can lay my hands on.
I have noticed as the shops have gone more upmarket so have the prices.
I don’t know what some managers are playing at. Don’t those with empty shops realise why people are staying away?
The people of Leigh won’t fork out £20 for second hand run of the mill clothes and shoes and that is what one shop in Leigh is charging. In Atherton I noticed a suit for sale for £24.99. It was in new condition, and the style I wear, but which must have been at least 10 years old It wouldn’t be so objectionable if they were top designer labels, but they’re not.
That said one of the most sensible pricing shops is appealing for clear out clutter to sell in its 12 borough outlets.
Wigan and Leigh Hospice is seeking those good quality clothes left in a drawer or wardrobe for “just in case reasons” that would probably not see light of day again.
What about children’s’ clothing or toys that have been outgrown?
They can all find a good home and help the wonderful work of the hospice.
Every donation, however small, helps towards their very challenging annual fundraising target of one and a half million pounds.
It doesn’t matter if it’s Prada or Primark, Gucci or gumboots. Just drop your clean, good quality unwantables off at the shops. They will be very welcome.
