I AM delighted to hear that the people of Westleigh are rallying to improve their long neglected park.
A Friends of Westleigh Park group has been formed and some residents have already signed up to help make the recreation area a site to be proud of again.
If only the younger people could have seen it in its glory days!
Last year the council was successful in gaining “Play Pathfinder” money for parks across the borough and Westleigh’s play area benefited to the tune of 50,000.
Now ward councillors admit they can’t stop there.
Cllr Sue Loudon, said: “We have struggled with the park because it is so large and needs considerable investment to make any lasting impression. We think the best way to get substantial amounts is to form a “Friends of Westleigh Park “ and apply perhaps for lottery funding.
“Some local residents have already joined the group and we are thankful for their support.
“We want to celebrate the new “kit” that has arrived on the park and to ask your readers to let us know if they would like to support the Westleigh Project.”
If anyone wishes to help make the park sparkle again give Sue a call on 01942 897240 or e-mail s.loudon@wiganmbc.gov.uk
