SIX years after the death of the country’s best loved working class hero, Fred Dibnah, fascinating books are still being published on his life, work and philisophy.
The charistmatic charmer, whose job was to mend or fell the Victorian history that he loved, changed Leigh, Atherton and Tyldesley’s skyline in the process, A new 132 page magbook “Fred Dibnah’s World of Steam” celebrates his life in his own unique words.
It features never before seen letters, certificates and restored archive material, original photographs of the great man at work, his outspoken opinions on life, and his thoughts on his move into the world of television.
In one letter to the BBc written in 1983 he writes:”After five years of film making with the BBC I have come to the conclusion that repairing factory chimneys pays better wages than the BBC, so therefore I do not wish to carry on making films.”
Thanks goodness he did.
The new publication is available this month for £6.99 from WH Smith, magbooks.com and amazon.co.uk Yet another for my collection.
