ASTLEY and Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club made the long trip to Kesgrave in Suffolk to compete in the under 13s British Club Championships.
A&T were drawn in the second semi final and set off well, with Adam Phillips winning heat one.
Disaster struck in heat four when Norwich’s Oliver Riley fell and Ross Green subsequently rode into him, landing heavily in the process.
After a delay while he received treatment, Green took his place in the re-run, with Riley excluded, but pulled up within half a lap and took no further part in the match.
Adam Phillips continued his winning ways and completed an impressive 16 points maximum score.
Reece Pollitt improved after a tentative opening race to record three third places, with Alex Green showing plenty of effort but for little reward.
Kesgrave ran out easy winners, with Leicester emerging as the other qualifiers after a battle throughout with Norwich, East Newport and A&T for the second qualifying spot.
The lack of a scoring fourth rider ended A&T’s chances of reaching the final.
Ipswich won the final, finishing ahead of Poole and Kesgrave, with Leicester fourth.
A&T take on Heckmondwike in a challenge match at Gin Pit ton Sunday, 2pm start.
