Leigh Genesis 1 Harrogate Railway Athletic 2
THE recent three-game unbeaten run that has seen Leigh Genesis climb from the foot of the Evo-Stik League First Division North table was ended by the worst possible side at Crilly Park.
Harrogate Railway Athletic, third bottom before the game, widened the gap between Genesis and league safety with Saturday’s win.
The visitors took the lead in the 14th minute when Wayne Harratt was left unmarked to head a cross in to the corner of Phil Priestley's net.
Leigh levelled on 75 minutes when Steve Ferrigan headed home a corner, but Leigh were denied a point at the last breath as the game entered injury time.
Michael Duckworth tapped in a rebound for the visitors after Priestley had parried away the original shot.
Leigh are now ahead of bottom-placed Ossett Albion on goal difference and 11 points behind third-bottom Harrogate Railway Athletic with 11 games of the season remaining.
Genesis' next game is a home fixture against Woodley Sports on Tuesday, kick off 7.45pm kick off, before second-placed Chorley and their multitude of former Leigh players and staff make the short trip to Crilly Park on Saturday.
