THE Three Towns Operatic Society this week present ‘The Sorcerer’ at St Joseph’s Hall, Chapel Street, Leigh.
Two young talented newcomers to the society Victoria Goulden and Bryony Wilmington have principal parts.
Victoria has the lead soprano role ‘Aline’ who is engaged to Alexis of the Grenadier Guards; and Bryony the role of ‘Constance’, daughter of the church verger, who is in love with the village vicar. The story goes back in time when village life was the hub of the community. Everyone celebrated the blessings of others and in this case an engagement.
Victoria as a child often watched her Granddad’s old movies and dreamed of becoming a big band singer. She started her training at Liverpool Theatre School and College undertaking a Foundation Year in Musical Theatre prior to attaining a degree at The Arden School of Theatre in Manchester. She has performed in numerous musicals including Sondheim’s ‘Company’ where she performed the role of Jenny.
Her parents introduced her to the world of Gilbert & Sullivan at an early age and Victoria has performed in numerous Gilbert & Sullivan operettas. In the University Festival Productions at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival at Buxton Opera House Victoria played Casilda in ‘The Gondoliers’ and the lead soprano role of Josephine in ‘HMS Pinafore’.
This is Victoria’s second year performing with the Three Towns, having been in the chorus for last years production. This year she is very excited at the prospect of playing the lead soprano role of Aline in ‘The Sorcerer’.
Bryony is a mezzo-soprano who graduated from the University of Durham with a degree in music and now teaches music at Rosebridge High School in Wigan. She thoroughly enjoys Gilbert & Sullivan having been influenced by her experience in the chorus of ‘The Pirates of Penzance’. Bryony went on to play lead roles of Little Buttercup in ‘HMS Pinafore’ and The Duchess in the ‘The Gondoliers’ in the University Festival Productions at the International Gilbert & Sullivan Festival at Buxton Opera House.
A wonderful opportunity to see this rarely performed Gilbert and Sullivan operetta accompanied by professional orchestra.
The play is being staged on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
