POLICE are appealing for information after repoprts of a woman being assaulted in Atherton town centre.
Shortly after 2:20pm on Monday, officers received a call from a concerned person who said that she had witnessed a woman in a white truck being assaulted by a man.
The incident had happened at approximately 1.30pm while the van was stopped at traffic lights at St John Street in Atherton, on the junction with the corner of Mealhouse Lane near the parish church and market place.
The witness heard a scream coming from the vehicle, which had a woman passenger seated between two men.
The van is described as a white flatbed with caging over the top, possibly with the registration number beginning with GS53 or GL53.
The two men are described as white and in their 30s, of medium build and with short, dark mousey hair.
The woman is described as white and with shoulder length mousey coloured hair.
The van then headed off down Mealhouse Lane in the direction of Leigh.
Police are asking for anyone who may have seen this incident to call them.”
