THE jury trying two brothers accused of murdering a teenage boy who drowned in a deep Hindley fishing pond is expected to begin its deliberations on Monday.

David McGrail and his younger brother Drew McGrail are on trial at Liverpool Crown Court denying the murder of 17-year-old Dylan Aaron.

During the trial which began more than two weeks ago it has been alleged that the brothers refused to let the victim get out of the Deep Pit pond at Hindley after Drew pushed him in.

Dylan had turned up in the early hours of the morning on May 30 last year with two friends looking for 35-year-old David McGrail whom he believed was responsible for damaging his family's car as part of on-going feud.

The prosecution claim that he and Drew, 27, scuffled and Drew pushed him into the water and he and his brother then made death threats. The boy began swimming across the pool but apparently got into difficulties half way across and drowned.

The McGrails, both of Lancaster Road, Hindley, deny the allegations, although David McGrail said he had heard his brother make a death threat to the youngster.

The judge, Mr Justice Royce, began his summing up today and is expected to conclude this on Monday and send the jury out to consider the evidence.

When the trial began the brothers both just faced a charge of murder but the judge has now told the jury that they can also consider an alternative charge of manslaughter.

David McGrail also denies assaulting Daniel Bagnall, a friend of Dylan's, by hitting him on the head with a torch when he tried to rescue the drowning lad.
