AN elderly Leigh man was warned that he faces a jail sentence after admitting a string of child porn offences when he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court.

Lawrence Plover was found to have amassed more than 10,000 obscene photographs and videos, some in the most serious categories including young girls being violently raped.

Plover, aged 72, of Warrington Road, Leigh, had also distributed obscene videos and photographs the copurt heard.

Judge Robert Warnock expressed concern saying: "He seem to have no insight at all into these matters. Until his belief system shifts no remedial work can be done."

He added that he did not accept the offences resulted from his "collection compulsion" and warned that Plover faces a custodial sentence.

Adjourning sentence until Friday, May 27 the judge ordered Plover to sign the Sex Offenders Register. He was further remanded on bail.

Plover pleaded guilty to 16 offences of making indecent images, six of distribution, one of possessing 10,870 such images and two of possessing extreme porn. The offences occurred between September 2005 and August last year.
