A PAEDOPHILE has been jailed for 21 months after admitting a string of offences.
Lawrence Plover, 72, of Warrington Road, Leigh, was sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday and forced to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.
The court heard that Plover amassed more than 10,000 obscene photographs and videos between September 2005 and August 2010.
Some of the images and recordings were in the most serious categories including young girls being violently raped.
It was also heard that the pensioner distributed a number of pornographic videos and photographs to others.
Judge Robert Warnock expressed concern about Plover’s state of mind.
He said: “He seems to have no insight at all into these matters. Until his belief system shifts no remedial work can be done.”
Judge Warnock also did not accept that the offences resulted from Plover’s ‘collection compulsion’.
Plover pleaded guilty to a total of 16 offences of making indecent images, including six of distribution, one of possessing 10,870 images and two of possessing extreme porn.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said the officer dealing with the case did not wish to comment.
