SUPER League target Joe Cator has been offered new terms to extend his Leigh career next year.
Reports from Humberside suggest Lee Radford’s Hull FC are keen to add the Championship young player of the year contender to their ranks for 2020.
Hull born Cator, who moved to Leigh Sports Village from Hull KR, was a standout performer for John Duffy’s squad last season.
“There is a lot of interest in Joe at the minute and where he could move on to,” said Duffy.
“But we have offered him a new deal. So, it us up to Joe where he wants to go and what he wants to do next.
“However, we are trying to keep the spine of the team together and build some quality around it with a bit more funding.
“Everyone knows Derek is not scared of putting his hands in his pocket to make sure the squad is competitive and where we want to go in year two.
“We have got to make sure we recruit well and bring in the right people.
“It was disappointing how the season ended and maybe we underachieved in the last six weeks with the personnel we had here.”
Duffy confirmed the club has released Nick Gregson, Jack Higginson and Dec O’Donnell.
But fans favourite Martyn Ridyard is set to remain at his hometown club despite recent rumours linking him with a move away.
“I had a chat with Martyn last week and he never gave me any vibes he was moving on,” added Duffy. “Besides, he has his testimonial next year.
“There is all kinds of stuff going round at the minute. I think it is because we have been quiet and not said much.
“But we are sticking to the plan we put together from Derek when I first joined. That was to see how far we could get in the season just gone and build for next year.”
Featherstone are 80 minutes away from Super League but must beat Toronto on Saturday.
“Fev are peaking at the right time of the season,” said ex Rovers boss Duffy.
“It is going to be tough for them with the travelling ,having played in France last weekend, but I think they will push Toronto all the way.
“But you can see how together they are and how much they want it when you watch them play.
“Having said that Toronto are a different animal this year. I don’t think they will be thinking too much about last season and what happened against London.
“They have a new coach and new players. And they will approach it differently.
“We saw recently how good they are by putting that score on Toulouse.”
