DANNY Addy can’t wait to turn customary jeers into Leigh cheers when he pulls on a Centurions jersey for the first time later this month.

The former Bradford Bulls and Hull KR forward knows only too well the partisan nature of Leigh fans.

So, he is looking forward to having them onside for a change.

“I’ve probably had a lot of stick as a visiting player so I’m looking forward to the fans being behind me,” says Addy who celebrates his 29th birthday on January 15.

“It has always been a venue where visiting players dread coming to because it’s so intimidating.

“But the set up at Leigh is top quality. I have been at some Super League clubs who don’t have the facilities we have here. “

And Addy is chomping at the bit for some competitive action after a testing pre-season.

Leigh have confirmed an opening friendly against last season’s surprise Super League Grand Finalists, Salford Red Devils, at the AJ Bell Stadium on January 11.

They also host Wigan Warriors at Leigh Sports Village on Thursday, January 23 with a 7.30pm kick-off.

“If you don’t enjoy pre-season you shouldn’t be doing it,” insists Addy.

“You push your body to the limits so it’s important to do it with a smile on your face.

“We’ve been doing a lot of hill sessions and the lads just get up, turn up early and do as they’re told.

“It has been tough so far but I can’t wait to get started. I know a lot of the lads and I’m looking forward to adding to what’s here already.

“Every game is important in the Championship and you have to peak at the right time.

“The Championship has been growing each year in terms of stature and the quality is improving.

“It’s good to be part of one of those quality teams in the division like Leigh.”

Leigh fans can now buy tickets for their game at Salford. The match kicks off at 12 noon to avoid clashing with Manchester United’s Premier League game against Norwich City at Old Trafford.

Former Leigh half-back Ian Watson’s side has not played the Centurions since the sides met in the Challenge Cup in 2018.

On that occasion, Leigh recorded a 22-10 win to reach the quarter finals with Ben Reynolds scoring a try and kicking three goals.

Ticket price details are as follows: general: £15 adults, £10 U21s & conc (over 60) and £5 juniors (under 16s); 1873 Suite: £20, £15 and £10.

Tickets for the game will be available from the LSV ticket office, check the website and social media platforms for updates.

Tickets for the Wigan game are now on sale. For sponsorship and hospitality enquiries, contact the Centurions’ commercial department on 01942 487887 after January 2, 2020.
