AFTER a delayed start to the cricket season due to the incredibly wet winter and early spring, Leigh got their Love Lane Liverpool Competition Premier League campaign off and running with a trip to Wallasey on Saturday.
Put into bat, Leigh were reliant on opener Tom Grundy who struck 73 out of the visitor's total of 131 all out with Mohan Howard's 20 the other score of note.
The modest target proved too difficult for Leigh's bowler's to defend as Wallasey passed the total with six wickets down in the 39th over.
Sunday saw a complete contrast as Leigh hosted Ribblesdale Wanderers of the North West Cricket League in the second preliminary round of the ECB National Club Championship.
Batting first, Leigh amassed a huge total of 286-2 off their 40 overs thanks in the main to an unbeaten 145 from Harry Church and a second wicket partnership of 185 with Matty McKiernan (69).
If the Wanderers struggled in their first innings their reply was even more desperate as they were bowled out for just 26 with Finn Hulbert taking 7-9.
