ATHERTON’S Keely Hodgkinson produced a confident and commanding performance in the women's 800m at the Diamond League meet in Oregon.
The 22-year-old is looking to build into a big year ahead of this summer’s Paris Olympics.
And she ran a perfect race in Oregon – her own race – and was not fazed as Kenyan Mary Moraa raced away quickly over the first 400.
Hodkinson kept her own pace and tucked in well behind the leading pack of three before overtaking them on the outside on the final bend before accelerating down the home straight, winning in a time of 1.55.78.
Moraa was second in 1:56.71, while Hodgkinson’s Team GB colleague Jemma Reekie came in at third in 1.57.45.
The Athletics component of this year's Paris Olympics starts on 1 August.
