KEELY Hodgkinson fans in her hometown Atherton and the surrounding Leigh and Wigan areas are bracing themselves for gold medal celebrations this evening.

The 22-year-old will be racing in the women’s 800m final in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at Stade de France.

We asked Leigh Journal readers on Facebook what would they say to Keely if they could have a word in her ear, and this is the best of the responses:

Katie Rogerson-Moran: Joe would be so proud

Dennis Anderson: Atherton needs a Gold Postbox, you can give the Town that. Go Keely go.

Heather Jane Hayes: This is your time xx

David Aspden: Nothing as I could not enhance what she has already. Quality athlete she will do it for herself after all the hard work she has put in over the years. Good luck Keeley
