THE son of a former Super League points machine has signed for Leigh Leopards.

Will Brough, the 18-year-old son of Danny Brough, has joined Leigh on a 12-month contract after his deal at Wakefield Trinity came to an end.

While Danny was one of the smaller guys on a rugby field - a goal-kicking half-back who made a record number of 24 caps for Scotland - Will is a towering centre who had a first-team squad number at Belle Vue last season but featured in the club’s academy and reserves.

His progress has been watched closely by Danny’s former teammate and coach Chris Chester, who is Leigh Leopards’ head of rugby.

“Will is a young, tall athletic centre, standing 6ft 3ins,” said Chester, who played in the same Hull FC side as Danny and coached him at Wakefield.

“I have been keeping an eye on him during his time at Wakefield, including when he played against our reserves side this season.

“Will is an excellent goal kicker, just like his dad, and I am looking forward to watching his progression in 2025.”

Will is a chip off the old block in terms of having dreams of making it in Super League and will set about earning a longer stay at Leigh Sports Village.

“I am over the moon about the opportunity to be coached by Adrian Lam and can’t wait to meet the boys,” said Will.

“Signing with a Super League team like Leigh Leopards is a dream come true for me, something I’ve always aspired to as a young lad.

“I’m buzzing to get started and hope to play in front of the Leigh fans in the coming years!”

His dad amassed close to 4,000 points in a career that brought him spells with seven Yorkshire clubs - Dewsbury Rams, York City Knights, Hull FC, Castleford Tigers, Wakefield Trinity twice, Huddersfield Giants and Bradford Bulls.

He retired in 2021 as the joint-fifth highest points scorer in the history of rugby league and made more than 500 appearances in a career spanning 19 years, which included representing England and Scotland at international level.

Danny was named the Steve Prescott Man of Steel Award winner in 2013 after helping Huddersfield to lift the League Leaders’ Shield.
