THREE Leigh Amateur Boxing Club youngsters have won titles.

Eleven-year-old Sean Connor, 13-year-old Adam Ridge and 14-year-old Michael Connor have been crowned North West Region ABA Schoolboy champions Sean, of Westleigh High School, put in a blistering all-out attack performance to stop Dean Dixin-Foster, of Tyldesley Centurions ABC, in the first round of their 36kg final in Gorton, Manchester, on Saturday.

Adam, of Bedford High School, put in a classy display of boxing to unanimously outpoint William Rowson, of Atherton Pool of Life ABC, and take the 42kg championship title.

Sean and Adam join Westleigh High School's Michael, already confirmed as 63kg champion in the national quarter finals opposite Tyne Tees ABA in Manchester on February 7.

Eleven-year-old Lewis Clark, despite a battling performance, lost out in the 46kg final, while 14-year-old Charlie Munro lost a majority decision in his 48kg semi final.

This weekend sees 16-year-old bantamweight Jonny Brown and 16-year-old middleweight Tom Jones in action in the NACYP Championships in Manchester.

Leigh Amateur Boxing Club are on the lookout for next year’s potential champions and welcome anyone of any age or ability to go along to training sessions at Leigh Boxing and Fitness Centre, Scott Street (off Wigan Road).

Sessions for seven to 13-year-olds are Monday to Thursday 5pm to 6pm at £1.50 per session, with 14-year-olds and above training following on each night from 6pm to 7.30pm at £2.50 per session.

Saturday training for all is 10.30am to noon.
