LEIGH swimmer Heather Frederiksen has won her first gold medal of the London 2012 Paralympic games after racing to victory in the final of the women's S8 100m Backstroke.
The 26-year-old had already won a silver medal in the S8 400m Freestyle last week, beaten into second place by American Jessica Long, but tonight, Tuesday, Frederiksen turned the tables on her opponent to record victory.
Frederiksen recorded a time of 1min17secs to beat Long into second place, with Russia's Olesya Vladykina back in third.
The Cheshire-based athlete has one remaining chance to land a third medal at London's Aquatic Centre, where she starts the heats for the 100m S8 freestyle on Thursday.
