LEIGH have handed a trial to former London Broncos and Hull KR winger, Kieran Dixon.
The 29-year-old is currently off contract after spending 2021 with York City Knights in the Betfred Championship.
On his day, a dazzling runner and accomplished goal kicker, Dixon took his first training session with Centurions on Monday.
Head coach Adrian Lam is keen to add numbers with quality to his squad in the run-up to Christmas.
But he told Journal Sport: “Kieran got in touch with the club and wants to have a crack. So, he was invited in to trial and train.
“There is no contract on the table at the moment. We will see how he goes and make some decisions later on.”
Hackney born Dixon made his Super League debut for Broncos against St Helens in 2012. He gained international recognition with England Knights and scored 39 tries in 55 appearances for Broncos before moving to Hull KR.
He re-joined the Londoners for 2017 and helped Danny Ward’s side win promotion via a Million Pound Game victory over Toronto in 2018.
Former Wigan chief Lam is relishing his new role and working hard alongside Head of Rugby, Chris Chester, to strengthen the squad.
Promotion and relegation between Super League and the second tier for 2022 was officially confirmed at last week’s Rugby League Council meeting,
And while Centurions and Featherstone Rovers are considered the two front runners for the one place, Lam is currently more circumspect.
“Fev have picked up a few good players and they are a club that will be up there when it counts,” he said.
“I am sure Featherstone have set their sights on Super League too and it will be a massive battle throughout the season.
“I am not trying to worry much about everyone else. When I first got here there were only about 12 players so my focus was on getting the numbers up.
“The start of the season will be tough because we have a totally different squad from last year and we need games together.
“The first couple of weeks won’t define us but I am confident we can start well and gel.
“The club has had clarity on that now (promotion) so we can move forward with that now.
“It’s in our own hands in the immediate future and all we can do is prepare the best we can.”
Leigh face St Helens on 21 January in Alex Walmsley’s testimonial game.
