LEIGH Leopards are set to receive a triple boost with the return of key stars when Adrian Lam’s side bids for a first ever win at Wigan Warriors' Brick Community Stadium on Friday night.

Prop Robbie Mulhern, full-back Gareth O’Brien and potentially skipper John Asiata are due to feature against the World and Super League champions.

A late call will be made on Hull FC bound Asiata who has appeared in only three games this season and not since April 26.

But Mulhern and O’Brien will definitely feature as Leopards attempt to win on Wigan soil for the first time since 1983.

“The squad looks the healthiest it has been all season,” agreed head coach Lam. “It will take a few weeks for the players who come back to find a bit of form.

“So, we have to make sure we get the changes right if they play and how much time they have.”

Agreeing table topping Wigan are “flying” Lam added: “Last season we beat all the teams but the Grand Finalists.

“Now, we have beaten Catalans twice this season so the goal is to beat Wigan in one of the two games against them.

“We have been in every match we have played against them. But we haven’t been able to get our game management right in key moments.

“So, I hope there is a performance that reflects the importance and urgency around the two points this weekend.

“We do need to start winning because we are under a fair bit of pressure. Sometimes when those situations occur that’s when a group can come together and gets on a roll.

"We need to start this week.”

Ex Huddersfield star Darnell McIntosh is one player who won’t feature. The former England Knights star has appeared in just two games since his arrival from Hull FC.

“Darnell is our future over the next couple of years,” insisted Lam “He has been sitting behind the outside backs waiting to get an opportunity.

“The players who have been in the 17 or starting 13 I believe have done a job for us in recent weeks. So, it has been hard to push Darnell in there and leave someone else out.

“Players though are on notice about making sure they perform and I am looking forward to giving Darnell a go at the next opportunity.

“That maybe next week or it may not be for the rest of this year. We have had the conversations with Darnell and he is aware of that.”

Keanan Brand made the first appearance of his month-long loan spell at Widnes in the Vikings’ 24-16 Championship home defeat by Batley Bulldogs last Sunday. Leopards’ teammate, Nathan Wilde, has switched to Doncaster for the same length of time.

Half back Matty Horrocks scored Leigh’s only try in a 60-4 defeat at Hull FC reserves last weekend.
