LEIGH Leopards Women have reached Super League after beating Featherstone Rovers at St Helens to cap a magnificent season that has seen them win all 19 games they have played.
Kieron Purtill's side beat Rovers, the bottom placed Super League side, 34-16 in Sunday’s winner-takes-all clash for the eighth and final Super League place in 2025.
Leopards made a fine start, with centre Gabi Leigh taking a Rhianna Burke pass to cross for a try with three minutes on the clock.
And they soon doubled that lead when Hattie Dogus dodged and weaved her way over for her 26th try of the season.
With Charlotte Melvin adding both goals, Leopards had a 12-0 lead before Rovers got into their stride.
Leopards had to do plenty of tackling, but they managed to keep Rovers at bay and then crossed for a third try with Mollie Young touching down.
With prop Claire Mullaney making a big impact off the bench just before half time Leigh were back for with Cobain going in for the side’s fourth try.
Leopards went in 22-0 up at the break and chalked up the first score of the second half with Becky Greenfield crossing in the corner following a brilliant cut-out pass from Leah Morris.
At 26-0 up, Leigh were maybe already thinking of fixtures at St Helens, York, Leeds and Wigan – but Rovers had other ideas.
Converted tries from Brogan Churm-Mellor and Courtney, with two Tally Bryer conversions cut the lead to 12-26.
But Leopards’ Toryn Blackwood flew in at the right corner from Claire Collins’ offload to be rewarded for running it in the last play of the set.
It meant when Chloe Billington scored Rovers’ third try in the corner, it was a mere consolation.
Leopards had the last word with Young bagging her second in the corner from another fine Morris ball, with the latter chosen as Player of the match after a week her 21stbirthday.
