HOW many readers remember Pennington railway station?
In 1946-47 I travelled to Manchester from this station with friends as went to the city’s university.
The train went to Kenyon Junction, where we joined the Liverpool to Manchester train.
A feature at the roadside on the bridge approach over the railway was a concrete pillbox.
This had a wooden superstructure designed and painted to resemble a proper signal box.
Now there is no railway, with it having been replaced by the road leading to the East Lancs Road.
